During the mid-century era (primarily the 1970s and 1980s), companies like Arnel's or Atlantic Mold sold unglazed greenware (blank ceramic slips) to local community craft workshops. Hobbyists would purchase the blank bird, carve their personal initials or a date into the wet clay bottom, paint it with glaze, and fire it in a local kiln.
